Gardner for council

To the Editors:

Having been assistant to Daniel Gardner in the Office of Community Affairs, I would like to take this opportunity to endorse his ability to serve the community of Oberlin as a member of city council. As former director of the Center for Service and Learning, he will bring his experience in grassroots organizing, fundraising, grant writing, strategic planning for the future, and making the most of a limited budget.

While serving as Director of Community Affairs, he gained knowledge and experience in day to day operations/infrastructure of city government, built relationships with city and county organizations, local banks, non-profit organizations, county and state politicians, and developed a true sense of the importance of town-gown relations.

Anyone who knows Daniel even casually knows he has the qualities of an outstanding person. I was able to benefit from these qualities during the time I worked with him in the Office of Community Affairs. Respect is the cornerstone of relationships, and Daniel understands that very well. He earned my respect, and in return always treated me with respect. For example, other people would tell me that Daniel had complimented my ablities to them. By doing this, he paved the way for me to gain respect and confidence from people outside of the office. Let Daniel bring his experience and leadership ability to city council by voting for him on Nov. 4.
