Two Oberlin Cubs fans threatened with a knife
World Series aftermath could have been bad

A student threatened and violently harassed two other students last Wednesday night in an incident which has led to the student’s withdrawal from Oberlin.

After the Red Sox World Series victory, a group of students were celebrating outside on North Campus. The threats began when one first-year student (who requested that his name not be used) made a comment about the Chicago Cubs.

The suspect turned to the student and allegedly told him, “I have a knife in my pocket. If you talk about the Cubs again, I’ll put it in your throat.”

“I didn’t really register it at the time...it didn’t hit me until a little later how scary that was,” said the potential victim.

A few minutes later, the aggressor approached another first-year student, making violent gestures and harassing the student about the jersey he was wearing.

He made the student spit on the jersey and rub it in the dirt, and finally attempted to make him urinate on it.

“I just didn’t want any trouble, so I went along with most of what he said,” said the student, who also wishes to remain anonymous.

The two harassed students walked to Barrows Hall, but the aggressor walked ahead and continued to make threatening comments.

A resident assistant at Barrows was told of the situation, and Campus Safety and Security was contacted. Security officers talked to the parties involved before calling the Oberlin police.

The issue is currently before the Oberlin College Judicial Board. The students threatened have not yet decided on whether they will file legal charges.

“I thought the situation was handled really well by Campus Security. They did an excellent job and made me feel like the situation was under control,” said one of the students. Campus Security could not comment on the matter for privacy reasons.
