V-ball ends

The volleyball team finished their season this weekend with a tournament at Manchester College and a match at Notre Dame College of Ohio on Tuesday.

On Friday night Oberlin faced off against Tri-State College and Dominican University. The Yeowomen lost both match-ups, falling 30-25, 30-11, 30-18 and 30-14, 30-15, 30-22, respectively, in straight games.

They added another loss as they returned to the court on Saturday and were beat by tournament hosts Manchester, 30-12, 30-13, 30-21.

Oberlin came out hard in their first game of their last match of the tournament, taking Earlham College 27-30. The Quakers came back hard though, finishing the match in four games with scores of 30-26, 30-14, 30-25.

The Yeowomen had a late start getting on the road on Tuesday night due to long lines at the voting polls. Election day distractions seemed to ruin their focus on the court as they finished the season with a disappointing loss to Notre Dame College of Ohio. The Yeowomen were unable to put points on the board as they fell quickly in straight games, 30-14, 30-14, 30-13.

Although the volleyball team was unable to add a win to their record in their final weeks of play, the felt improvement throughout the season leaves then looking towards next year with optimism.

“It was hard to lose our last few games of the season, but there were some bright moments,” said junior captain Katie Au. “Our block has improved and we will really miss Oneida [Trainor], our lone senior. It has been a difficult season, in part due to several injuries and our lack of experience, but we have great team chemistry and I’m confident we will be much stronger next fall.”
