Oberlin College’s finance club

To the Editors:

I would like to publicly announce the existence of the Oberlin Student Finance and Investment Club.

Our primary goal is to provide a forum in which students can gather and share information on the finance industry and investment in general.

While investing may not seem to fit in to the general Oberlin atmosphere, we believe that understanding the financial markets and being able to prepare financially for retirement is important, regardless of a person’s chosen profession. It is possible, and effective, to work for social change within the financial markets.

In addition, I would like to publicly congratulate those graduating seniors who have achieved enormous success by obtaining positions in the highly competitive financial field. These students went up against the mass of Harvard and Yale graduates and knocked them cold.

So, to Kevin Jackson, Evelyne White, Andrew Roebuck, Marian Bocek and Benjamin Van Couvering, congratulations! If I have missed anyone, I apologize.

So, if you have an interest in finance, or perhaps you always wanted to have an interest, but didn’t know where to start, you are welcome to come to our regular meetings in A154 of the Science Center, Mondays at 9:30 p.m.

–Joseph Collura
Conservatory senior
