Thanks, white men

To the Editors:

It seems, at times, that references to white men in these pages are not always wholly positive. I can understand that. From bad T-ball coaching and rude styles of driving to the inept management of entire countries, the shortcomings of white men have been apparent to me, too.

However, I would like to publicly announce my general positive feeling toward white men. Since the day of my birth, white men have smiled at me, bought me baby food, told me what the weather would be like in the future, taken care of me at school and sold me things at shops. When I’m feeling blue, I can always turn to a white man, be he living or dead, and in his arms, be they literal or figurative, I feel that life is not only an unending string of cruel, poorly paced and unfunny practical jokes. White men such as Steve Nash, J.S. Bach and even my own father, are going out, or did go out,
hundreds of years ago, every day, to do their damndest. And for their damndest, I say, “Thank you, white men.”
