Disgust for racial dichotomy

To the Editors:

I must comment in response to Julie Dulani’s commentary on the status of SAST. It angers me greatly that in order to note possible misconceptions by Oberlin students and organizations on “People of Color,” Ms. Dulani used hatred and bigotry toward “white” people to remark on this incredibly sad situation.
A victim of sexual assault is a victim of sexual assault. Making a hotline seem exclusively pro-minority only overshadows victims who are “white” or of mixed heritage. Should we have preconceived notions toward someone just because of the color of their skin?

Apparently Ms. Dulani believes that “white” people are the ones misconstruing the image of POCs. I believe, however, that her incredibly unfounded and biased commentary was a disgrace to the Oberlin community, which I am inclined to believe includes all people, of all colors, races and creeds.
As a Woman of Color, I am hurt and disgusted by Julie’s portrayal of a racial dichotomy that only breeds more hatred, bigotry and racism. I hope that someone starts SAST up again and that people blinded by their own petty situations will not break down resources for the Oberlin community any longer.
