Golf places 14th at the OWU invite

The Oberlin College men’s golf team has had a tough season with only a ray or two of success shining through thus far. With five tournaments out of the way, the Yeomen have managed to place better than the bottom two slots just once when they won the Hiram Invitational just over two weeks ago.

Since that time, the team has played at the Wooster and Ohio Wesleyan Invitationals, turning in disappointing performances, to say the least.

On April 16, the Yeomen placed 17th out of 17 teams at the Wooster Invitational and this past Friday went on to place 14th at the 16-team tournament at the Ohio Wesleyan Strimer Invitational, ironically on the same golf course at which the NCAC Championships will be held this weekend.

Oberlin had 686 strokes on the tournament, defeating Hiram and Kenyon Colleges, who had tied for 15th place with 690 strokes. The top three teams were Ohio Wesleyan, Otterbein and Wittenberg who had 603, 617 and 619 strokes, respectively.

This weekend the Yeomen will travel once again to the Oakhaven Country Club, to compete in the NCAC championships on the same course which held them to a difficult showing last weekend.

With the young team still struggling to prove their competitive edge, this will be an opportunity to earn respect in the conference and give them a taste of what’s to come for the future of Oberlin College golf.
