Yeowomen fall to NCAC’s top team

The Oberlin women’s lacrosse team traveled to Wooster, Ohio last Thursday with two final opportunities to pick up their first conference win of the season.

At Wooster, the Yeowomen had a steep hill to climb as they faced the number one team in the conference, the Fighting Scots of Wooster. The Scots were undefeated in conference play, while the Yeowomen were 0-4, sitting in last place in the NCAC standings.

Unfortunately, the Yeowomen struggled early and lost 15-2.

Senior Justine Strayhorn and first-year Janine Heiser both scored on their only shots of the game. The goal was Strayhorn’s 15th of the season, while Heiser’s goal against Wooster marked the 12th time she had scored.

Junior goaltender Sarah Pilzer saved nearly half of the Scots’ shots on goal, stopping 14 out of 29 shots taken.

Sophomore Meg Reitz, who is second on the team in groundballs, held to form as she led the Yeowomen by picking up five loose balls on Thursday.

The Yeowomen, who cannot finish higher than last in the conference, will not make the NCAC tournament.

For women’s lacrosse, only the top four teams are allowed the opportunity to enter the NCAC tournament and fight for an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
