Site for Environmental Studies not chosen yet

To the Editor:
The article that appeared in the Review on Friday, Feb. 23, entitled "ENVS building site chosen" is inaccurate and misleading. A site for the Environmental Studies Center has NOT been chosen. Rather, charrette participants, representing a cross-section of the campus and community, recommended the Elm Street site south of Harkness for the future construction of the building. The decision must still be considered by the Environmental Studies Program, the Architectural Review Committee and the Facilities Planning Office. Additionally, the architectural firm that has been hired for the project needs to be consulted. Finally, the decision must be approved by the Oberlin College Board of Trustees.

The charrettes are offered as an open public forum for people interested in the Environmental Studies Building Project to gather and think through important issues. The input that is developed at these sessions is essential to the development of the building program. However, this input does not comprise a final decision. This input is presented to relevant committees around campus, to the architectural firm that has been hired for the project, the President's office and, ultimately, the Oberlin College Board of Trustees.

Please, for the record, correct the inaccuracies of the Feb. 23 article.
