OSCA offers much more than LSD

Oh, come on, don't try and be all coy with us now. We know why you've joined OSCA. Don't try and protest, we know the only reason for living in a co-op is OSCA's "see no evil, hear no evil, report no evil" drug policy. Everyone knows Harkness is a veritable trip-fest, and Keep, well, Keep had its own beer co-op last semester, what more proof do you want?

What? You say you don't look at OSCA as simply a haven for all of your depraved activities? Come now, what could possibly have prompted you to move out of those big, cold, impersonal dorms, to give up the fatty, bland, nausea-producing delicacies of CDS?

You say you're in OSCA because it's cheaper than the dorms? No excuse, what's a thousand dollars a semester? Everyone knows that Oberlin's just a bunch of spoiled rich kids, quit your whining.

You say you're vegan and all CDS offers you is dry toast? Get over it! What have the cows done for you lately? Life is a two-way street, until Bessie starts changing the oil in your car, drink a glass of milk!

You say you like the neighborly atmosphere of cooking and cleaning together with fellow students? Why do you need OSCA for that? Stevenson has a salad bar, just grab a couple of friends and go wild with the cucumbers - instant bonding experience. And hey, if you spill some salad dressing, you can all join together in cleaning up the mess.

Lately, some people around campus have been questioning the value of OSCA. One would hope that such questions are not the result of an irrational, overblown view of drug use in the co-ops. OSCA is integral to Oberlin, it's what sets it apart from many of the other schools in its category. It's a place where students take full responsibility for their food and living spaces and manage a budget of over $1 million a year. To consider getting rid of OSCA is akin to considering amputation of one's own right arm. We should all realize the value of this unique organization.
