Saunas closed after unknown person urinated on hot rocks

Over the summer, the sauna in Philips Gym had to be closed because an unknown person urinated on the rocks in the sauna. According to Operations Manager Gene Mathews, the sauna had to be closed down, cleaned and recarpeted.

Mathews said that the person was from a summer conference group.

Although the sauna is functional now, it is still closed because the health board has yet to authorize the reopening of the sauna.

Athletic Director Don Hunsinger doesn't put much importance on the repair of the sauna. "It wouldn't be a high priority on my list, but I guess some people like them so we need to fix them," Hunsinger said.

Mathews said that the sauna has not been completely repaired because his department has been busy with other back-to-school work.
