Security is slow to act on new escort program

To the Editor:

As concerned students, we are writing to let the campus know about what has been going on with the possibility of a new student escort service. The idea for this service came into being as a response to the budget cuts last year. These cuts discontinued the security escort service to off campus locations. The Feminist Majority took this project under their wing and has been working with security since last semester. We, as the security committee from the Feminist Majority for this semester, have been trying to work with Keith James (Director of Security). Since the start of the year, we have been meeting with Keith James in order to get this program off the ground. As of now we have about 15 people willing and ready to give their time to make this happen, but still have not gotten the go ahead from security. Unfortunately, Keith James has neglected to show up to the past two meetings we have made with him. We are ready to implement this escort program which would benefit everyone on the Oberlin campus. This will never come into being however, if security does not put it as one of their top priorities.

Members of the Feminist Majority want to see this program implemented with or without the help of security. If you would like more information or would like to volunteer to be a part of this program please contact anyone of us.
