100 new black students

To the Editor:

Oberlin College sets for itself the goal of enrolling roughly 800 new students each year. Virtually every year that goal is reached.

In the early 70s, we set for ourselves the goal of enrolling 100 new black students each year. Although we have never reached that goal, we did enroll 75 in 1995. Regrettably, in 1996, we enrolled only 46. Let's all join with our deeply committed Administration and Admissions Office so that we will get much closer to our shared and cherished goal of 100 new black students in 1997.
