Is it really our  institution?

Since this is supposed to be "our" institution, why aren't "we" deciding on the values and rules? Does "our" mean the administration but in no way the students? Because if the students were deciding on the rules, they would not include possibly censoring future performances coming to the College. Especially not if they were like the recent Tribe 8 concert which was highly regarded by everyone who went, but condemned by people who leapt to conclusions about what went on in the 'Sco.

Administrators have said that nothing will be changed in how shows are booked. But many students feel that this is not true, illustrating a lack of communication between the two opposing camps.

And since this is supposedly "our" community, wouldn't it make sense for all of us to discuss whether we want lesbian punk bands playing on our campus rather than having a couple of people proclaim it against the values of the community? Right now, however, it feels as though we have drifted back into the fifties.

It is seriously scary to think a college as (supposedly) progressive as Oberlin is worrying about a topless woman with a dildo so much. That is the very double standard that women have been fighting against for years. In Oberlin, women should not be worrying about being prosecuted for expressing themselves as sexual or autonomous beings.

Go ahead and "point fingers." But point in the right direction. Let the administration know we care about free and revolutionary speech. We want to discuss what happened in the 'Sco and make sure people know what actually went on.
