Pinchuck fences in national meet

by Geoff Mulvihill

Senior Jason Pinchuk wasn't foiled by his competition at a national circuit fencing event in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He was epée'd.

Pinchuk, who usually competes in two of the four annual national circuit meets, finished 80th out of 100 competitors in the epée. He compiled a 4-6 record over his 10 bouts, which were all on one day.

Pinchuk said he'll fence in both the foil and epée competitions at the next national circuit event, which will be held in Louisville.

"Hopefully, that will take off some of the pressure," he said. "I'll know if I screw up one day there will be something to fall back on."

The Yeostabbers, Oberlin's club fencing team, will probably have a few more scrimmages against other college teams by the end of the semester, said Pinchuk, who is the team's captain.
