If you're fed up with the Drag Ball scene and need a breather in this slow, post mid-semester lapse of time, now's your chance to escape to Cleveland and beyond. A few of this week's contestants:

Also at the Cleveland Museum of Art Apr. 6, the film Fire on the Mountain (USA, 1995, 72 min.) will show at 1:30 p.m. Directed by Beth and George Gage, the film tells the story of the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division who fought Nazis during WWII. The Cleveland Museum of Art will host a guitar recital on Apr. 6, at 3:30 p.m. Given by David Leisner, one of the top American classical guitarists; works performed by J.S. Bach, Ginastera, Mertz, Schubert and Liesner. For more information call (216) 421-7340.

The Soviet film, The Aesthetic Syndrome (USSR, 1989, subtitles, 153 min.), is being shown Apr. 9 at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Directed by Kira Muratova, the unusual story is one of a schoolteacher who habitually falls asleep at moments of crisis. Showtime is 7 p.m.; admission is $5 for non-CMA members. Quality indie films at the Cleveland Cinematheque this weekend include: Dadetown at 7:30 p.m. and The Mother Night at 9:25 p.m. tonight. On Apr. 5, Bye-Bye - a French film about the lures and dangers of easy money in the drug trade - will show at 7 p.m. and Stereo and Crimes of the Future - two futuristic Canadian films by David Cronenberg exploring parapsychology and "biological horor" - will show beginning at 9:10 p.m. Sunday, Shivers, another Cronenberg flick, will delight audiences with the story of a sexual parasite infecting a plush apartment complex. Film actor Ralph Maccio stars in How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, a new Broadway production nominated for the Tony Awards for Best Revival of a Musical, Best Director and Best Choreography in 1995. Performances run through Apr. 13 at the Palace Theatre on Playhouse Square in Cleveland. Tickets are available through the Playhouse Square Center box office. The Cleveland Playhouse sponsors the Anne Frank Interfaith Candlelight Vigil Apr. 6 from 6:30-8 p.m. in memory of the young author and other victims of the Holocaust. The vigil, which will begin at the Liberty Hill Auditorium, 8206 Euclid Avenue in Cleveland, will end up at The Cleveland Play House, East 85th and Euclid. For more information call (216) 421-8560.
