Profs seldom recognized

To the Editor:

Recently I became reaffirmed in my respect for Oberlin's professors. I was walking through Kettering at eleven o'clock in the evening when I saw Mr. Craig exiting the building. As I walked up behind him, I commented upon the lateness of his leaving. He turned towards me and, addressing me by name, commented that it usually was a late evening. He then went on to ask me how I was feeling about thermodynamics unit in my chemistry class.

The things that impressed me about this was his dedication of staying late after arriving early (certainly before 9:00 am) and his recognition of me by name. Not only did he know my name, one of hundreds of students, but he was able to instantly associate me with his Chemistry 102 lecture class. Quite a feat.

Professors are seldom recognized for the effort they make for the students and the school above and beyond which is necessary. I hope this note gives professors reason to believe that we as students appreciate their efforts and encourages students to relate their appreciation to the professors.
