Assist. director search near end

by Sara Foss and Susanna Henighan

After a seven month process the search committee for a new Assistant Director of Residential Life has recommended two of the final four candidates for the job.

One of the final candidates is from outside of Oberlin. The other is Terri Bump, special assistant in Student Life.

The final selection meeting was held Tuesday, but according to Director of Residential Life Deb McNish, chair of the search committee, the results of the meeting will not be released until the decision has gone through a process of approval and the selected candidate has been confirmed.

McNish was not available for comment on the search on Thursday or Friday morning.

According to senior Jonathan Rochkind, OSCA representative on the search committee, the committee looked for candidates who would "fit into Oberlin" with experience in facilities management.

The search for the position began in October, when the job description was changed to focus more on facilities management. At the beginning of November McNish said she hoped the position would be filled by the end of that month. "We've been sweating it out trying to provide facilites' services," McNish said, in November.

McNish said all candidates were "interviewed by several constituencies: OSKA [Oberlin Korean Student Association], the counseling center, the Dean's staff."
