The following are general summaries of the ideas and goals proposed by individual planning teams. Each team submitted a four to five page document, including several braod strategic goals, and some more specific ideas for tactics. The team reports, and a short summary of them from President Nancy Dye will be available on Tuesday.
Oberlin and Educational Access:
To facilitate good relations and communication between the college and the outside community
To more actively recruit a more diverse population through tactics such as increased financial aid
Building the Artistic Community of the Future:
To improve arts resources and strengthen the arts community
Campus Space and the Oberlin Community:
To increase people's sense of campus community
To keep facilities up to date
Community Beyond Campus:
To aid Oberlin students in increasing their knowledge of the world around them, particularly through community service programs, in order for them to be successful and productive members of society
Living and Learning in a Diverse Community:
To continue recruiting and celebrating a diverse community of people in keeping with Oberlin's history of diversity
To promote on-campus discussions of diversity
Educational Priorities and the Curriculum:
To foster challenge and creativity within the classroom by increasing resources and somewhat changing the focus of some courses to specific intellectual skills
Building the Faculty of the Future:
To continue recruiting a diverse community of unique, creative and intelligent faculty members whose primary concern is providing a solid education for their students
Interdisciplinary Education:
To enhance broad education emphasizing the connections between existing disciplines
To promote the study of new disciplines
Oberlin and the International Community:
To educate an internationally mixed campus about the world at large and strengthen bonds between different groups through increased resources and education
The Residential College Experience:
To encourage increased community by renovating living areas
To provide residential environments conducive to education, learning, community and well-being
Science Planning:
To increase Oberlin's ranking in relation to other liberal arts colleges by improving resources, education and activities available to science students
Sports and Oberlin's Future:
To promote athletics as a more integrated and essential part of the college experience
Supporting Student Initiatives and Associational Activities:
To provide more extracurricular opportunities for students with diverse interests through increased outreach and more available resources
New Educational and Informational Technologies:
To increase access to technology of the future in order to facilitate education and innovation
