Baseball has first-win of the season, is a shut-out.

by David Grigg

In the bone-chilling cold yesterday, the baseball team played Division II Urbana College in a freezing doubleheader. Oberlin captured their first win of the year in the first game 1-0 but lost the second 10-6 to bring their record to 1-22. The Yeomen also played against Wittenberg University last Saturday, losing 11-2 and 21-12. Tuesday's game against Bluffton College was postponed until April 30.

Junior Brendan Cody had a perfect game in one of the efforts against Wittenberg. He went five for five with with five walks.

The Yeomen took the first game against Urbana with extraordinary pitching from sophomore Carson Keeble who had seven strikeouts and scattered four hits through the seven inning game. This was the first no-hitter shut-out pitched by an Oberlin pitcher since 1994. Oberlin displayed hard offense and Keeble's great pitching left Urbana scoreless.

When asked about their first win if the season, Assistant Coach Eric Lahetta said, "It's about time."

Keeble said, "It just feels good to win a game. We had a solid defense today, all together it was a good game."

Junior Jason Quinn said, "It shows that green hair isn't needed to win games.

Coach Todd Mooney said, "We have another game to play."

The Yeomen lost this game, though it was relatively close for the first four innings. The weather seemed to have its affect on the Oberlin players.
