The Yeowomen's path to the conference championships

by Dave Bechhoefer

April 1

Oberlin 15, Allegheny College 4

The Yeowomen's first conference game. Oberlin wins easily but feels they played down to the Gators scrappy level and didn't uphold the high caliber play Coach Mindy Manolovich wanted to foster.

April 9

Oberlin 20, College of Wooster 5

Senior Kaelyn Stiles shuts down the number two scorer in the conference and senior Bepi Barry scores eight goals to begin her inevitable journey towards the conference's leading scorer spot.

April 12

Oberlin 10, Ohio Wesleyan University 7

Oberlin knocks OWU out of the conference's first-place spot and limits the conference's leading scorer to one goal. The Yeowomen are down at half-time before junior Katherine Roberts stepsup to fling in three quick ones and take the lead.

April 16

Oberlin 12, Kenyon College 4

The Yeowomen are tired from a three-game week and play a sloppy first-half. The team pulls it together for the second half to easily get the win. Barry had four goals as did sophomore Kim Allen. Barry moves up to the number two scorer's position in the conference and junior Alysia Oakley grabs her position as the conference's second goalie leader.
April 19

Oberlin 19, Wittenberg University 0

The team sets an Oberlin record for number of shut-outs in a season by adding this one to the 17-0 rematch against Allegheny. The Yeowomen are now completely comfortable with the level of play that dominates games and demoralizes players. Wittenberg gets no shots on goal in the second half.

April 20

Oberlin 22, Earlham College 1

Oberlin scores two goals in first 28 seconds to set the tone for the game. The Quakers only get eight shots on goal during the whole game. The Yeowomen manage to keep their intensity-level high and don't sink to Earlham's level.

April 24

Oberlin 15, Denison University 4

Denison was the conference champion last year and this win secures the Yeowomen's top-seed ranking in the conference. The team is now undefeated in the conference for the first time in the history of the program. Barry scores four to put her in the conference's number one scoring position. Roberts breaks the record for number of assists in a season. Oakley has a 65 percent save percentage in the game. The Yeowomen are now in the playoffs.
