OC swims to end

by Jeff Glickman

Five swimmers had one last chance to qualify for Nationals at the appropriately titled Last Chance Meet last Saturday. None of the swimmers qualified.

As Coach Dick Michaels said, "There were some good things and some bad things."

No one was close to qualifying for Nationals, but sophomore Shana Ageloff earned two lifetime bests.

Ageloff dropped two seconds in the 200-yard breaststroke and shaved half a second off her time in the 100-yard breaststroke to finish in 1:15.50.

Ageloff's taper did not pay off for her at Conference. "I felt like crap at conference," Ageloff said.

"[Last Saturday] I felt good," Ageloff said. "I felt good the whole week before that."

First-year Aurie Cabou was sick at the conference meet. She recovered to earn one personal best at Last Saturday she hit the wall in the 100-yard freestyle .37 seconds faster than the week before to finish in 56.74.

For the men, co-captain senior Clayton Woodson dropped two-tenths of a second in the 50-yard freestyle sprint to earn a best of 22.40. Fellow senior Rob Pinson shaved a second off his 200-yard freestyle time to touch the wall in 1:52.51.

For the rest of the competiting swimmers, one week wasn't long enough to escape their predicament. Junior Matt Soellner was still bothered by his injured elbow. Sophomore Paul Pitcher was still beat up from swimming so much during the season and was ready to go and lay out on the ultimate field. And first-year Erin Livensparger was still suffering from bronchitis.

While the rest of the team languishes in their season's glory and their free time, first-year John Limouze, continues to train in solo for the Division III NCAA swimming Championships held at the end of March.
