In the past year Oberlin residents and students alike have said good-bye to several downtown establishments. The most recent to close its doors is The Main Street Mercantile and Tea Room.
The "Merc," as the restaurant has been dubbed by students, re-opened its doors in January with new owners Kate Lynn and Sara Manns. They had been serving brunch, lunch and carry-out dinners.
Neither owner was available to comment on why the restaurant closed.
Although Bruce Douglas campaigned on a platform of educational reform, the math worked out in Lee Fisher's favor.
Fisher, OC '73, is the last remaining Democratic gubernatorial candidate. Douglas dropped out of the race Thursday, citing Ohioans' indifference to educational reform.
In a statement released Thursday, Fisher said, "Bruce Douglas has demonstrated that he is a man of both courage and principle. I am grateful and honored to have his support and look forward to working with him."
Fisher has previously served as state representative, state senator and Ohio Attorney General.
