Oscar Winner Goldman to talk at Honors Day

Oberlin alumni William Goldman has already been presented with Oscars. He's won two Edgar awards and several Lifetime Achievement Awards. But until now, he's never received an honorary degree from Oberlin College.

Goldman, OC '52, will receive an honorary Doctor of Literature degree Tuesday at the College's 58th annual Honors Day Assembly. He will also speak during the ceremony, which is held each year in Finney Chapel to award student prizes and recognize fellowship winners. William Goldman

Goldman has written the screenplays of such campus favorites as The Princess Bride, the cerebral Marathon Man and the Academy Award-winning Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. He also won an Oscar for his screen adaptation of All the President's Men...

Professor of English Pat Day said, "Goldman is a very witty screenwriter. There is a quality of expression his characters have."

Film in not the only medium that Goldman has expressed himself in. He is also a noted playwright, novelist and non-fiction author.

A performance by Professor of Organ David S. Boe will begin the Honor's Day proceedings. Goldman will field questions after the ceremony.

Ballots bring two finalists for Class Trustee position

The results of the Class Trustee Secondary Ballot were announced this week.

Seniors David Heafitz and Andreas Pape were the highest vote-getters among the ten candidates. Tobias James was selected as alternate.

Final balloting will begin in September.
