You Can Say that Again

"We're ready to open a six-pack of frothy agony all over those bums in the NCAC. I sure hope they're thirsty."

-John Rogers,
Junior distance runner
On the team's attitude heading into this weekend's conference championships

The first-year attack/midfielder from Herdon, VA totaled 11 goals and five assists in two games last week. He netted seven to lead the Yeomen to a 17-0 shutout of Medaille College. The first-year led the squad in points (47) and points per game (3.92) and was tied with sophomore Dave Rooklin for the lead in goals with 30. Vachon also finished seventh in the conference in those respective categories.

IN THE LOCKERROOM WITH...Nomar Garciaparra

At last weekend's Indians-Red Sox game, Rossiter T. Drake, our fearless editor-in-chief, took to the field before gametime to pick the brains of today's young stars.

What follows is the fruit of his labors...

Review: Mr. Garciaparra, can I have a moment of your time?
Nomar: Not right now.

What are they talking about?

This week...

E.R.A.

Sport: Baseball and softball

What it means: Not the un-ratified amendment, this E.R.A. stands for 'earned-run average', one of the primary statistics for pitchers. It measures how many earned runs a pitcher gives up, projected over all nine innings of a game. Therefore, a lower E.R.A is more desirable.

For example, if a pitcher gave up three earned runs (i.e. not scored as the result of errors or scored by runners inherited from the last pitcher) over six full innings (18 outs), then his E.R.A. for that game would be 4.50.
