What is the most effective form of student activism at Oberlin ?
Kimberly Dunn Double-Degree Sophomore: "Action. Community service. Instead of just protesting, going out there and being an active part of the solution as opposed to just drawing attention to stuff." Katherine Fernandez College Sophomore: "Protests and rallies. Because you get a huge group of people forming a sense of togetherness to fight for a cause affecting all of us. You don't feel like you're alone. Like the SOA protest. We walked on the base with 10,000 people and felt united." Forest Fisher College First-Year: "I think the most effective methods involve negotiations." Josephine Stewart College Sophomore: "Colors of Rhythm, that was the most effective form of protest." Claire Jahns College Sophomore: "I think the most effective form is becoming thoroughly informed on all aspects of the issue so that you're capable of making responsible decisions that are also politically viable in reality." Alexandra DelValle College Sophomore: "For a lot of people on campus, especially people of color, the best way to protest or stay active is to stay in school." Gabe Carleton-Barnes College Senior: "Disrupting planned events." Jasmine McCammon College First-Year: "I think how they have students tabling at Wilder is how I've become caught up." Nick Valva College First-Year: "Things that carry a message beyond the verbal." Ian Faleer Conservatory Sophomore: "If it is for a worthy cause ‹ establishing a common goal and unity within the group and taking action based on an educated, well-informed perspective rather than acting merely on impulse and emotion; and acting peacefully."
