Getting out of Town

To the Editors:

Do you ever feel trapped on campus? Do you feel like there is no way out of this town? Ohio PIRG’s Get on the Bus Campaign is trying to change this. We are presenting the College with a transportation systern that would increase Lorain County Transit (LCT) bus routes based on needs expressed by the 500 students we surveyed last semester. Specifically, the bus would go directly to the airport, where there is a free transfer to Cleveland, all day on weekends throughout the year in addition to the already existing weekday service. Routes would also increase significantly before and after school breaks.
In addition to adding routes, all students would have unlimited access to all LCT buses, which run all over Lorain County, with their OCID. This would cost $7.27 per student, less than one trip on the Hopkins Limo, as part of the student activity fee each semester. This would give students an easy, affordable way to get off campus, and help strengthen the relationship between the College and the Oberlin community.

This proposal will be voted on as part of the Senate Referendum after fall break, so it is now up to you. So don’t throw away that ballot when it shows up in your mailbox.
