normally associated with the dark world of Division I basketball, the
Oberlin mens basketball team forfeited its season on Wednesday,
giving up its best record in 10 years due to an administrative oversight. Arts This weekends
Winter Term production of playwright Rebecca Gilmans Spinning into
Butter holds a mirror to the face of Oberlin College. The play not only
confronts realities of institutional racism, but also brings to the surface
inner tensions caused by the inevitability of racism within the self.
Spinning into Butter premiered in 2000 and received the Roger L. Stevens
Award from the Kennedy Center for New American Plays and a Jeff Award. Sports Oberlin College
tennis began the season proper with the men traveling to Albion, Mich.
on Saturday, Feb. 16 to play both Albion College and Alma College. The
women faced Albion at home on Sunday, Feb. 17. Perspectives To the Editors: While I
agree that many aspects of the Bush administrations drug policies
are both moronic and counter-intuitive, I take issue with the Reviews
(2/8/02) editorial deriding the administration for running new ads during
the Super Bowl that link drug use and terrorism (and other acts of violence). |
