The Oberlin women’s lacrosse team recently endured another defeat during a home game against the Lady Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan University this past Wednesday. The contest ended with a score of 11-7, which dropped the Yeowomen’s record in the North Coast Atlantic Conference to 0-4 and overall record to 2-7.

The team seemed to hold back their talents until the latter part of the game, only scoring one point during the first half and trailing behind their opponents by seven points. It was only during the very end of the second half that the Oberlin team was able to rally against the Bishops’ strong lead, gaining an impressive but insufficient six points.

The lead-scorers for the Yeowomen were senior Laura Kent-Monning, who was able to obtain three goals for Oberlin, sophomore Susie Armitage, junior Brie Quinn, first-year Anna Ialeggio, and sophomore Maggie Douglas. Notably, first-year goalkeeper Sarah Pilzer also achieved an impressive 14 saves during the match.

Kent-Monning seemed encouraged when she spoke about the game, saying, “The last 15 minutes showed what our team is capable of. Because we scored six goals, and they didn’t score any. What we learned from the game was the need to be ready to play right from the start, which we plan to do on Saturday against Earlham. The talent that the young players have shown has been incredible, and they continue to demonstrate their ability to fill very important roles.”

Tomorrow Oberlin will make a trip to Richmond, Ind., to compete against Earlham College.

“We have to drive to Indiana, and it’s five hours each way. We are not going to come home without a win,” Kent-Monning said.
