Thanks
from OPIRG
To the Editors:
I am writing to thank the college and community
for their participation in two major Ohio PIRG initiatives on campus
that have been recently launched.
Last year students voted overwhelmingly to support the O-Pass and
expansion of public transportation in Lorain County. For a seven
dollar per semester fee on their term bill, students now have free,
unlimited access to all LCT routes giving students access to Lorain,
Elyria, Wellington, the airport (where you can catch a light rail
into Cleveland), and other nearby communities including the new
weekend routes to the airport which are funded by the O-Pass fee.
This service is available now so GET ON THE BUS!
One other Ohio PIRG service that has been launched is a major update
to the renter's rights notebook. Last semester Ohio PIRG surveyed
hundreds of students and landlords to compile an updated tenant's
rights survey. Now students have access to information about their
rights as renters and profiles of local landlords. Now students
have access to information about landlords before they rent. There
is also a list of properties that are available to rent. These notebooks
will be available at Wilder desk, Mudd Library, Residential Life
and Dining Services, the Oberlin Public Library and other locations.
Again, thanks to the Oberlin community, students, and Ohio PIRG
volunteers and members for helping make all this possible and please
drop by our new office in Wilder 327 to say hi!
