The Oberlin College womens indoor track and field team opened February
by capturing a fourth place tie at the 19th North Coast Athletic Conference Relays last Saturday.
The Yeowomens first place finish in the triple jump relay led them to 50 points, tying Ohio
Wesleyan Universitys total. The women of Denison University, which hosted the event this
year, claimed their sixth straight NCAC Relays championship, garnering 96.5 points on the strength
of five first place finishes.
Allegheny College wrapped up the mens side of the competition with 87 points. The Oberlin
mens team did not place.
Juniors Shannon Houlihan and Faye Doherty and sophomore Teresa Collins comprised the first-place
triple jump team. Houlihan led all jumpers with 3406.00 and Collins was sixth, giving
Oberlin a total of 6600.75, a new record for the NCAC Indoor Relays competition. Only
the top two jumps from each team counted in the team total, but Doherty finished right behind Collins
in seventh place with a 3011.00 jump.
The Yeowomen also had strong showings in the 5000 m relay, the 800 m relay and the 55 m hurtles,
finishing second in each of those events.
Senior Laura Feeney had the second best time in the 5000 m at 18:23.44, while senior Kyle McKenzie
finished fifth overall with a time of 19:17.47.
The 800m team of senior Courtney Stackhouse, sophomore Leslie Bosworth, Houlihan and Collins clocked
in at 1:52.11, just under three seconds behind first-place Denison.
Houlihan and Bosworth finished fourth and fifth overall in the 55 m hurdles to round out Oberlins
top team placements with a combined time of 18.70 s in the event.
Both the mens and womens indoor track teams travel to Cleveland tonight for a 6 p.m.
meet at Case Western Reserve University.
