Yeomen take second at Hiram Invitational
By Ryan Silakoski

The Oberlin College men’s golf team traveled to Sugar Bush Golf Club in Garrettsville, OH this past weekend to attend the Hiram Spring Invitational Tournament. Despite a rough start to their season, the team had an excellent showing at the tournament, coming in second place out of four teams.
Thiel College won the tournament with 697 strokes, giving them a large cushion over Oberlin, Lake Erie College and Hiram College who shot 739, 744, and 750 respectively.
Oberlin and Thiel held all ten of the top ten positions in the tournament at the end of the two day match. Craig Betchart took seventh place with 180, Tom King coming in eighth with 181, and Brian Block tying for ninth place overall with 184 strokes.
The nice weather during the tournament was a pleasant change from the season-opening Kenyon Spring Invitational that the Yeoman took part in last week, in which they faced icy rain and harsh winds.
Sophomore Prithvi Reddy felt that the biggest difference between the first and second tournament was that the tournament at Kenyon carried with it “freezing temperatures [and] wind chills that were very low,” and that this weekend “both days were very pleasant.”
Sophomore Tom King on the other hand felt disappointed with the Yeomen’s performance. “Though the result was better in Hiram, we played worse.” he said. “It happens but hopefully we will do better at Wooster.”
Despite not feeling that the team played to their potential at Hiram, King and Reddy both remained optimistic. “I’m look forward to the rest of the season,” Reddy said. “The NCAC Conference Championships are here, which will give us a considerable advantage over the other teams.”
Today the golf team will travel to the Wooster Invitational hosted by the Wooster Country Club.
