Critical Success

Jeannette Sorrell ’90 conducted her period-instrument ensemble, Apollo’s Fire, in January during the debut of the conservatory’s Stephen and Cynthia Rubin Institute for Music Criticism. The weeklong program brought together national music critics, renowned musicians, and aspiring young writers for a series of performances, keynote addresses by critics, critical review, and discussion panels. Oberlin master of music degree student Jacob Street’s written reviews of four concerts earned him the $10,000 Rubin Prize for Music Criticism. For more, see www.oberlin.edu/rubininstitute.
