On Secrets and Trees

Logician
I thought I could read your aspirations
in the angle you made with
                  the earth
So I made some heedless calculations
the result of which left us both
                  unmoved.

Dancer
I am undisciplined
They can see in the way I
step beside you
They can see that as much as you
lean, I should too but
It’s so difficult when I know that
your choices are no longer
      mine.

Thief
Taken aback,
They turned and left.
Seven years later,
They found, in the snap of a twig
What you had taken.

{Killer
You and I}

Gatekeeper
With an ivory skull in one hand
You held a little light they
Didn’t even see.

Stenographer
It is not fair that I, entrusting these words to you, return to find them nowhere
Were they scrawled in your dull bark, is that why they have faded?
Life is the bubble, wearing thin (then disappearing)
But you’re no philosopher and I
Haven’t understood this
Sigh and shrug
For years.

Comedian
That you grew old
was never certain.
