Bumper Bowling Classes
Bowling is a sport that can be enjoyed by everyone regardless of age. Bumper Bowling is a great way to get youngsters playing the game without the disappointment caused by gutterballs. Our Bumper Bowling League will teach bowlers age 4-8 the fundamentals of bowling, such as finding a target, following through on a shot, and having fun! Our coaching staff will also give individual pointers to all participants. The classes will meet every other Sunday from 1:30pm-2:30pm starting October 12. The cost is $4 per child per session and you only pay for the sessions you attend.

Autumn Pin Harvest
The Autumn Pin Harvest intramural tournament returned from
a two-year hiatus on Friday, September 26. Bowlers in this competition
bowled three games across all six lanes to qualify for one of two stepladder
finals. The top four scratch bowlers moved onto the Scratch Stepladder.
The remaining bowlers in the field received 100% handicap against
a 220 average with the top four moving on to the Handicap Stepladder.
The Scratch Stepladder was won by Max Pipinich, who climbed from the third
seed and bowled a 618 series along the way. He bested Shaquille Tisdell
in the first match, George Somerville in the second match, and James Riggs,
who had the high game (258) and series (643) for the event, in the
final
match.
The Handicap Stepladder was won by Ra'Mar Leach, who entered as the two seed. The first match was between Ben Kagan-Guthrie and Nattie Chan. Chan defeated Kagan-Guthrie, but it did come down to the tenth frame. A similar situation formed in the second match, but Leach was able to fend off Chan. The final match was between Leach and top-seed Maya Iverson. A missed spare in the ninth frame put Iverson on the defensive and she was unable to get the mark in the tenth necessary to shutout Leach.
Congratulations to the winners! We hope to see all the competitors, and perhaps some new ones as well, at our next tournament!
Bowling Team Surprises Field
The Oberlin College Intercollegiate Bowling Team began its season on September 27th at the first meet of the American Heartland Intercollegiate Bowling Conference at Rebman Recreation in Lorain. Oberlin sent two squads, Crimson and Gold, to compete in the event. The tournament used the Shark PBA pattern and the format featured five team games followed by five sets of three baker games.
Both teams had incredibly impressive showings that surprised the competition. After the second game, Oberlin Crimson was ranked 12th in the 35-team field. After five games, Crimson had a raw score of 4416 (176.64 average) plus 120 bonus points for matches won. Sophomore Ra'Mar Leach finished 19th in the individual standings with 959 pins/191.8 average. The bakers proved to be a challenge for the Crimson team, however, and they ultimately slipped to 23rd place.
The Gold team, which featured bowlers new to collegiate bowling, held their own in the tournament. Although their raw score of 3730 after five games was 33rd in the field, they earned 175 bonus points which solidified their position above two University of Cincinnati teams and a team from University of Tennessee-Knoxville. The Gold team had a strong performance in bakers, bowling a 570 series in one set, ultimately winning six of the fifteen games. They finished the day with 6390, just behind Bowling Green State University who had 6391.
