The Farm

Certified organic through the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association, the farm is located in New Russia Township on Pyle-South Amherst Road, a mile and a half northwest of Oberlin. The 8 acre OSAP operation is part of a 50 acre family farm.

A season’s worth of produce is sown, tended and harvested at the OSAP Farm under the direction of the Grower and the help of enthusiastic volunteers. All crops are grown according to organic methods.

Produce grown on the farm is distributed to shareholders and/or sold to the general public at the weekly Oberlin Farmers’ Market. Crops include: beets, beans, carrots, collards, corn, greens, leeks, lettuce, melons, onions, peas, peppers, potatoes, pumpkins, radishes, tomatoes winter & summer squash and sweet potatoes.

In addition to maintaining garden plots on its 8 acres, OSAP has constructed permanent facilities to increase its productivity. A greenhouse was built in 1997, through the generous support of the Bill Long Foundation, enabling OSAP to start seedlings and nurture cold-sensitive crops. Volunteers constructed a tool shed where equipment, seeds and supplies are stored.

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)

This OSAP program is designed for people who love fresh, home-grown fruits and vegetables but don’t always have the time or the space to grow their own –– or those who enjoy eating specialty items but don’t want to be overwhelmed by caring for a huge garden.

Your advance purchase of shares helps OSAP finance the up-front costs of the CSA operation (seeds and supplies, etc.). In exchange you receive just-picked vegetables, herbs and flowers against your initial investment –– thus shareholders are rewarded for their confidence in the CSA program. Of course as shareholders you undertake the risks of crop production, too, along with OSAP –– sharing in the vagaries of mother nature’s moods.

Become a shareholder and spend the summer planning your meals around luscious salads, crisp stir fries, and plates of fantastic tomatoes topped with fresh basil and olive oil –– set on a table decorated with bouquets of OSAP’s colorful annual flowers. Produce is distributed to shareholders from the OSAP booth at the Oberlin Farmers’ Market each Saturday.

Each share size should provide adequate produce for fresh eating, and for preserving (canning, freezing and drying).
