These are examples of essay questions that might possibly appear on a quiz  

1) How is depression described in terms of instrumental conditioning principles? What parallels are there between animal models of learned helplessness and depression in humans.

2) Describe, in terms of both classical  and instrumental conditioning, the experiment where a dog is trained to jump over a barrier to get food only when a light is turned on

3) What sort of associative and non-associative changes occur in the motor cortex of the cat after eyeblink conditioning procedures result in eye blink in response to a previously neutral tone. Is this sort of result observed in other areas of the proposed engram? Where?  Would habituation play any role in such a scenario? Why or Why not.

4) Discuss the details of a paradigm used to  investigate the engram associated with  the conditioning of non-specific responses.

9) Woody concluded that the neocortex was the site that eyeblink conditioning information is stored while Thompson says it is the cerebellum.  What might account for the different conclusions?
