Best practices for faculty supporting student mental health
- Create a positive and inclusive environment where all students feel respected and valued.
- Encourage open communication and allow students to share their thoughts, feelings and experiences.
- Integrate relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing or meditation, into daily routines.
- Encourage physical activity, such as stretching or exercise breaks, to reduce stress.
- Foster a growth mindset by focusing on effort and progress rather than just achievement and grades.
- Teach social and emotional skills, such as empathy, conflict resolution, and problem-solving.
- Promote a healthy work-life balance by avoiding overloading students with too much homework.
- Provide resources and referrals for mental health support when necessary.
- Be aware of and responsive to signs of distress in students.
- Regularly check in with students and ask for their feedback on the classroom environment.

- Hover your mouse ove the number next to the room you want to join, then click Join.
- Confirm by clicking Join again.
- You will be moved to the chosen Breakout Room.
- If you want to go back to the main room, click "Leave Breakout Room" at the bottom of the window.
