OBERLIN HIGH DROPPED FROM FIRST CLASS

IS NO LONGER ON ACCREDITED LIST ACCORDING TO STANDARDS OF NORTH CENTRAL ASSOCIATION, PROBABLY BE RETURNED AFTER NEW BUILDING IS PUT IN USE-PRINCIPLE MORRISON RECEIVES REPORT.

The following letter from the State Department of Education, Columbus, was received by Mr. Morrison, Principal of Oberlin High School.

"Oberlin High School was dropped from membership in the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools at a meeting held in Chicago, March 15, and 17. The following standards are being violated according to the report submitted:

1)Your building and furnishings are inadequate.

2)The laboratories are poorly arranged and overcrowded.

3)The ratio of pupils per teacher is thirty whereas the North Central Association recommends 25 as the maximum.

(Signed) C.B. Ulery

This action by the North Central Association was not entirely unexpected, altho it was hoped that in view of the high school getting into the new biulding next year the Association would allow Oberlin High School to remain on the accredited list. It is gratifying to note that the only reasons for being dropped are dur to the inadequate building and crowded conditions due to an increasingly large enrollment.
