IN CLASS WRITING: Tell me about yourself

I would like to get to know you and why you're in this course as soon as possible. Therefore, I'd like for you to spend the rest of this class period telling me a bit about yourself through your writing. This is not a test of any kind, and I won't be reading it to judge how well you spell or punctuate. Instead I'm looking for information about you and your previous writing experiences.

So tell me something about yourself. Think of it as talking to me on paper. You can tell me anything you think I need to know to help you work on your writing, but here are a few questions I'm especially curious about:

Why did you sign up for this course?

What kinds of writing training have you had in the past?

How well have you done on previous writing assignments in school before now?

What would you most like to improve about your writing in this course?

Have you ever done writing that wasn't for school classes (for example newspaper reporting, fiction or poetry, drama, diary or journal writing, pamphlets or advertisements for organizations)? If so what was it, and how did you like it?

Do you do much reading outside of school? If so, what kind (for example newspapers, novels, special interest magazines)?

What other courses are you taking this semester? How much reading and writing does each of them require?
