Martin Ackermann

Professor of Chemistry

Martin Ackermann joined the Oberlin faculty in 1966. He received the B.S. in chemistry from Carnegie Mellon University in 1963 and the Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley in 1966. He currently teachs general chemistry, inorganic chemistry, advanced inorganic chemistry, and the synthesis laboratory. His research interests are in two areas. One area involves the synthesis and characterization of transition-metal carbonyl complexes of nitrogen-chelating ligands with good pi acceptor ability. Some of the ligands that are being investigated are

The second area of research interest concerns the reaction of h3-propargyl/allenyl complexes of platinum, [(PPh3)2Pt( h3-CH2CCPh)]+ with nucleophiles.
