GOALS:
To develop a context for evaluating policy decisions.
To improve my negotiation and option-exploring skills.
To hone my confidence when put on the spot.

COMMUNIC~ON SKILLS:
Communicating complex issues quickly and clearly in order to mobilize populations
and raise funds. I have worked with several neighborhood campaigns including
Clean Water Action, the Sierra Club, and the Human Rights Campaign.
Creating effective advertising and publicity through the use of editorials,
posters, flyers, banners, and public events. Publicity played an important
role in my work as coordinator of Oberlins ~nnual Hunger Awareness Week
and secretary of Student Senate.
COORDINATION SKILLS:
Coordinating large groups of people over sustained periods of time. Acting
as a general contact person, facilitating discussions involving over 100
people, and maintaining focus, excellence, and excitement.
Fundraising. Developing organizational budgets and fundraising goals, creating
a schedule of groups to solicit, training co-workers to communicate information
and urgency, and working to maintain the fundraising schedule. In addition
to raising awareness, the Hunger Awareness Week raised over $4,000, which
was donated to local food distribution and job training centers.
COOPERATION SKILLS:
Building relationships with people from different organizations, interest
groups, and levels of authority in order to facilitate understanding and
cooperation.
Developing policy proposals as a team through combined research efforts
and discussion.
Resolving conflicts by assuming the role of an objective mediator.
These skills were learned while serving on Oberlin's Student Senate, General
Faculty Committee, Student Life Committee, Housing and Dining Committee,
and Housing and Dining Appeals Board.
Working with a team to complete research projects. As an intern at the
Pennsylvania Economy League, I worked closely with research associates
on three reports: The State of Center City, The Regional Arts and Culture
Initiative, and the Norristown Enterprise Strategy.
