OFFICE HOURS & OFFICE HOURS POLICY

OFFICE: Rice 230 (Second floor of Rice, go to the South end, up the small flight of stairs, turn left, naturally, a quick right, straight ahead.)

OFFICE PHONE: (440) 775-8490
OFFICE HOURS: During 2nd Semester of 1997-98: TuTh 1:30-3 and by appointment.

OFFICE HOURS POLICY: I have an "open door" policy. This means: No appointment is necessary. Anyone can come in at any time during office hours. During your visit, you and I might have company. Office hours, in short, are a public good. And ... Everything that is said is public Everything that comes up is a potential case study. This has some pros and cons.

PROS: You have an extra opportunity to learn from your peers -- often a great source of information and advice on matters of academic advising, internship opportunities, and post-baccalaureate (jobs, graduate and professional schools) planning. You get a chance to learn how to break into a conversation. You may make new friends.

CONS: You can not be assured of privacy during office hours.

To maintain the plus aspects of open office hours, while compensating for the negative aspect, you always should feel free to e-mail me or, if the matter requires an extended interactive discussion, feel free to call me at home (774-2802).
Comments:  I would welcome your thoughts, especially your constructive criticisms,
about these ideas and their presentation on this page.
