Quiz and Homework Information:
- Homeworks:
- Homework will be due weekly on Tuesdays in your discussion section.
- Homework assignments will be posted on Professor Craciun\text{'}s website approximately one week before the due date.
- \textbf{\underline{Homework should be stapled and have your name on the first page.}}
- Each assignment will be graded on completion. This means that you should do ALL of the problems in order to ensure that you receive full credit!
- For some homework problems, answers will be available in the back of the book. Therefore, if you do not show your steps, justify your answers, and write clearly and in complete sentences you will get no credit.
- Late homework is not accepted. No credit will be given for late homework.
- If you cannot attend section, you should send it with a friend or leave it in the brown envelope outside my office door labeled with my name. THIS MUST BE DONE BEFORE THE END OF DISCUSSION or it will be counted as late. Homework left anywhere else will not be graded or returned to you.
- You are encouraged to discuss homework assignments with other students and collaborate, but there should be no copying. The solutions should be written up independently.
- Finally, solving these problems is probably the single most important thing you can do to help yourself do well in this class. So please do your homework seriously.
- Summary Sheets:
-
Students will have the opportunity to earn a bonus point each week by presenting summary sheets for the sections covered by the homework. These summary sheets are meant to include all the information from a given section that you would need to study for an exam, and should certainly include all important definitions and statement of theorems, as well as some discussion of the types of problems encountered in that section and strategies used to solve them. Students that have written these in the past have found them very useful for learning the material and studying for the exams.
Be sure to turn in your summary sheets with your homework. However, please STAPLE THEM SEPARATELY from your homework.
- Quizzes:
- There will be a quiz every Tuesday during discussion section. It will cover the material from homework turned in that day.
- If you miss discussion, you miss the quiz. No make-up quizzes will be given.
- No calculators or electronic devices of any kind!
- Your lowest 2 quiz scores will be dropped.
- Quiz Solutions:
You should check this out. Be sure to have the sound on.
Handouts:
- If I pass out any handouts during discussion, you will also find them here.
Discussion Section Grade:
Your discussion section grade will be based on homework, group work, and quiz scores. Late homework will not be accepted and no make-up quizzes will be given. Your lowest two quiz scores will be dropped.
At the end of the semester, the discussion section grades will be normalized so that all the sections in our lecture have the same average.
(This will account for the differences in grading from TA to TA.)
Your discussion section grade makes up 20% of your overall course grade.
