Teaching and Psychological ResearchAfter an extended stint in Oberlin's administration (see c.v.) and following a sabbatical leave in 1995-96, I returned to the Psychology Department as an active member. Web sites support several of my courses:
I have long been fascinated with the initial stages of experience. Although my early research was in auditory psychophysics (especially binaural phenomena), my research interests now focus on the subjective evaluation of audio compression technologies.
Archeological ResearchIn addition to my work as a psychologist, I have published several papers with my spouse, Susan Kane, who is a classical archeologist in Oberlin's Department of Art, and with Norman Herz, a geochemist at the University of Georgia. I have created and maintain the web site for the Sangro Valley Project, in the Abruzzo, Italy. From 1995 through 1997, I served as Information Technologist for the excavation at Poggio Colla and in that capacity published a CD-ROM, Poggio Colla: The 1995 Season. Most recently, I created a web site, cyrenethefts.org, documenting the theft of sculptures from the University of Pennsylvania's storerooms at Cyrene, Libya.
