Visitors to the Allen Memorial Art Museum (AMAM) reflect on the great works of art they’ve seen following a self-guided tour. The museum, which opened its doors in 1917, is primarily a teaching institution, founded to support students’ educational experiences at Oberlin College. It is recognized today as one of the five best college and university art museums in the country.

With some 14,000 works of art—including paintings, sculpture and decorative arts—ComplexArt+Design magazine recently joined the list of admirers by naming the AMAM tops in its list of the 20 best college art museums. Perhaps best of all: it’s free.
