A Well-Crafted Book

The Story of a Book is a comic in pen and pencil by local artist Aimee Lee ’99, who makes many of the book materials herself. This one includes handmade slippery elm paper and woven covers with Japanese plant kon’nyaku on them. Some of Lee’s work and that of other artists are on display through October 18 in the Art Library, located on the second floor of the Art Building.

Oberlin boasts an extensive collection of artist books in a wide range of media and formats: Books folded into continuous strips, books compiled as sets of cards, and a book coated in beeswax are a few of the creative ways artists have chosen to express themselves.
