While it is only a minor source of pleasure, I miss the joy of walking to the stairs from the entryway. Why the apparently permanent closure of the gate?

Someone who wanted to have a question on this board, and finally figured one out (i.e. a major source of pleasure)
As you seem to have guessed, we have recently implemented a new procedure for the gate. In the past we kept it open weekday mornings and early afternoons. But we've had a rash of backpack thefts and we also are experiencing a lot of problems with people who are taking food into the building. Because of that we have decided to leave the gate closed all the time that the main part of the building is open so that we can keep an eye on who's entering and exiting the building.
