Chroma |
The prologue to Erik Loyer's Chroma (Chapter 0) presents the necessary backdrop for the rest of the work. It defines Chroma's setting, the "mnemonos" (a hyperspace mediated by human communication and mental contact), it introduces the reader to Orion, Duck, Perry, and Dr. Anders (Chroma's characters) and it presents Dr. Anders's experiment (to send the trio into the mnemonos). The prologue also establishes important visual associations, like the colors yellow, blue, and red representing Duck, Perry, and Orion, respectively. Without these associations, the reader's visual control over Chroma would be arbitrary play instead of an effort to map out meaning.
