Symposium: King Building, Room 306, 9:30 a.m.

"Eduardo C. Mondlane: His Visions and Actions for an Independent Mozambique."

A panel of distinguished colleagues and friends of Eduardo Mondlane will explore his visions and actions to free Mozambique from Portuguese colonial domination.
Moderated by long-time Africanist Prexy Nesbitt.

Symposium: King Building, Room 306, 2 p.m.

"Rebuilding Post-Colonial Mozambique"

Professors John Saul of York University, Edward Alpers of UCLA will discuss the rise and fall of socialism in Mozambique and the challenges of developing a country in the 1990's. Janet Rae Mondlane will discuss strengthening community values and hope among Mozambiquan citizens living in poverty.
The panel will be moderated by Sonia Kruks, Danforth Professor of Politics at Oberlin College.

Wrap-Up Discussion, Wilder Hall, Room 101 8 p.m.

James Millette, professor of African American studies at Oberlin College, will moderate a wide-ranging discussion among presenters and members of the audience concerning the Eduardo Mondlane legacy and current challenges and approaches to rebuilding Mozambique.
